Artist Bio

Junip was formed in Gothenburg, Sweden, by José Gonzaléz (guitar, vocals), Elias Araya (drums) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, moog). Their debut full-length album "Fields" was released in October 2010 on the City Slang label.

As a solo artist José Gonzaléz has gained much critical and commercial success across the globe since his wonderfully inventive version of The Knife’s Heartbeats became an unlikely hit back in 2005 alongside both of his solo albums Veneer and In Our Nature. The band’s sound will be familiar to those who have listened to Gonzalez’s records, but added to the mix on top of his nylon stringed guitar and distinctive voice are organs, analog–cut synths and drums. The songs still retain the power and beauty of José’s distinctive, plaintive songwriting but there is a more expansive agenda at work with the songs often taking on a dynamic, melodic and shadowy tone, allowing José to play different, more psychedelic shades than his solo recordings have allowed.
