Villagers have already had a meteoric year with the release of their debut album, Becoming A Jackal (Domino), in May which went straight to Number 1 in Ireland and is nominated for this year’s Mercury Music Prize Album Of The Year (the winner will be announced on Tuesday 7 September).
“That Day” is the third single to be released from the debut album, Becoming A Jackal, and will be released in Ireland on 1 October. It is a momentous paean to fate and communication sung to us by a narrator who is “embedded in the written story”, its bellowing and triumphant delivery belies its somewhat resigned and fateful lyrics.
Villagers is the brainchild of Conor J. O’Brien.
Conor and co have spent the last few months touring the US, Europe and the UK, and more recently the band made festival appearances at Oxegen, Leeds/Reading and the Electric Picnic.
